Roger Clarke succumbed to a heart attack

Agriculture Minister the Hon. Roger Clarke, succumbed to a heart attack on Thursday.

He left a Florida based hospital in July, about five days after he had surgery on his back .

 

Sources say Clarke was recovering at home in Florida and continued to have regular post operative check ups with the medical team.

 

A statement from the Office of the Prime Minister said he was given clearance by doctors to return home on Thursday. 

 

Late Wednesday, the RJR News Centre spoke with Clarke who appeared to be in high spirirts and was looking forward to returning home. " Call me Thursday afternoon " he said .  

 

Highly placed sources say Clarke checked in on an American Airlines flight back to Kingston early Thursday at the Miami International Airport .The late Agriculture Minister who was in a wheelchair, cleard customs and security and was in the departure lounge when he complained of intense chest pains.

 

The paramedics who were called administered emergency care in the depature lounge to Clarke who was still conscious at the time.

 

After the initial treatment a decision was made to go to hospital. Clarke was taken on a stretcher to the ambulance and on to the University of  Miami Hospital where a team worked on him in the emergency room for approximately 15 minutes.

 

Their efforts were not successful and he was pronounced dead around noon local time.
