The Jamaican Bobsleigh Federation said it has reached its fundraising target and is therefore advising the public that no further donations should be made to any crowd funding site in support of the team.
A public plea for help was made to get the two-man team to the Winter Olympic Games after team members learnt that they had qualified for the event.
However, the Federation announced the closure of all fundraising efforts at crowd funding websites (@CrowdTilt, @Indiegogo @dogecoins and others.
When word broke that the team needed help several persons took to social media to 'rally the troops' and raise the funds needed to get the team to Sochi, Russia to participate in the February 7-23, 2014 staging of the Winter Olympic Games.
In a statement, the Federation said: “Now that the team is officially qualified the Jamaica Olympic Association will cover the costs of the team's travel to Sochi. Once there, accommodation, meals and travel will be provided by the Sochi Organizing Committee. The arrangements are standard for teams which have qualified for Olympic Games.”
Jamaica will be sending a five member delegation to the games: Winston Watts and Marvin Dixon, crew members; Wayne Blackwood, alternate crew; Thomas Samuel, coach, and Nelson Christian Stokes, Chef de Mission.
The Chef de Mission is scheduled to arrive in Sochi on February 3 and the team will arrive on February 4, the Federation said.
The first official event will be the flag raising ceremony in the athletes’ village on February 5.
The opening ceremony of the Games will be on Friday, February 7 and the competition for the bobsleigh team will take place on February 19 and 20.
