In 2004 when the best young actors from the annual Schools’ Drama Festival were invited to form the Jamaica Youth Theatre, nobody could imagine the impact those young performers would have had on the local theatrical landscape.
Actors from the Jamaica Youth Theatre in the 2005 of Errol Hill's Classic Man Better Man Thirty talented young people ages 13 to 20 recruited from several secondary schools all over Jamaica, each with a burning passion for theatre – this is the future of Jamaican theatre, this is Jamaica Youth Theatre.
JYT specializes in bringing classic West Indian plays to the Jamaican stage in a professional and entertaining way. The Jamaica Youth Theatre has consistently wowed audiences and critics alike across Jamaica and the wider Caribbean with its excellent performances over the years. The group has walked away with the top production awards at the last two Caribbean Secondary Schools Drama Festivals held in Trinidad and Tobago (2004) and St. Lucia (2007).
