Marley's 'Dead Lef' Guitar |
In Jamaica, we talk bout a thing name ‘dead lef’, which is the source of nuff controversy and bad feelings. People who were good fren an combolo at one point, become sworn enemies, and 'cut dem eye' or 'suck dem teet' after each other, over the issue of dead lef’ - the possessions of the deceased. Sometimes even before the person’s ashes get cold, the quarrelling over their material possessions begins. It brings out the ‘ugly’ in so many people. And at these time yuh realize that 'duppy no have no power' , because surely they would rise from the ashes and sort it out. Well Bob Marley’s guitar is a typical case of ‘deaf lef’ causing controversy and bad feelings. BOB MARLEY's former bassist ASTON BARRETT has launched a bid to recover a guitar he claims the legendary rocker gave him as a gift. Barrett - nicknamed Familyman because he has fathered as many as 52 children - is asking for the guitar back and $50,000USD in compensation. The guitar was given to Bob Marley during a visit to the Yamaha factory in 1979 and was used in live performances by the legend in Tokyo and Osaka.
