The appeal for the vintage recordings was made recently by Information, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Olivia Grange, against the background of the discovery that close to 80 percent of the material in the music archives of the former JBC had been removed. The Ministry has set up a special committee to review the current filing and storage arrangements for the JBC archives, and make recommendations for the protection of Jamaica’s audio legacy. The committee, chaired by former police commissioner Trevor McMillan and journalist/financial analyst Owen James is to present its findings in March. One direction which seems evident is the digitizing of the recorded material.

The Information, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister has joined many well thinking Jamaicans in condemning the actions  of those who stole the various recordings and has assured that the Ministry will pull out all the stops in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
