Now in it’s 29th year, the taste Talent competition has unearthed a number of  well known stars including Beenie Man,  Nadine Sutherland, King Yellowman, Mr. Vegas, Papa San, Daville, Brian and Tony Gold and Paul Blake. It was born from a concept by Jamaican musical stalwart Sonny Bradshaw as he searched for opportunities to showcase emerging bands and came up with the idea of a free lunch hour concert.

In 2007, Tastee restructured its talent contest in order to appeal to a wider audience. This came with a name change from ‘Tastee Talent Show’ to ‘Tastee Talent Trails’. For 2008 Tastee will again partner with drink giant Pepsi and take auditions across the island to widen the talent pool.

Four auditions will be held beginning on Saturday September 20th in Portmore; September 27th will be staged in May Pen; October 4th will see them roll into the second city of Montego Bay while capital Kingston will have its time on October 11th

From these auditions 40 contestants will be selected to move on to the semifinals to be held in Kingston on October 23rd and Montego Bay on November 10th. The top ten from the semis will secure a spot at the finals scheduled for Mas Camp on December 6th.  The Tastee Talent Trail will be aired on CVM TV as a Nine episode series premiering Friday October 17th at 9pm and will follow contestants through each audition and as they perform at the semi-finals.

Now  entering its 29th season of showcasing talented Jamaicans, Tastee is inviting singers, dancers, comedians, dramatists and poets to vie for the opportunity of taking home $500,000 in cash and a Penthouse recording contract worth an additional half a million dollars.

Simone Chang, Director of Tastee Jamaica Limited in her welcome said that every talented Jamaican ready to embark on the journey to stardom is welcome to sign up. “We recognize the rich history of the competition which showcase the range of talent Jamaicans have and highlight those who have the sustainability for a long term career. We are thrilled that many artistes still acknowledge the platform that Tastee has been. Through this competition our intention is to give every Jamaican a chance to strive towards their dream.”

At the recently held launch of this year’s contest, some of the talent unearthed over the years, gave splendid performances. Performers for the evening were the group  X-Ale, 2002 finalists along with the 2008 winner Marvin Fishley.   .
