One easily remembers Ring Ding, when Louise Bennett ’Miss Lou’ would throw back her head with unbridled laughter say “Riggle mi dis, riggle mi dat, guess mi dis riggle an paraps not.”Then she would pause, her eyes lighting up and her face would have this smug little look of “I know something that you don’t know” before she launched into “Up chincherry, down chincherry, not a man can climb chincherry. Who know di answer to dat riggle?” Then every Jamaican, those in the television studio at JBC and those at home watching the TV would be snapping fingers, bussing their brains, guessing and guessing, trying to answer the riddle. Miss Lou would be laughing, that infectious laugh which made everybody want to get on the laugh bandwagon, and when she had had enough of the wrong answers she would say, still laughing “Oonoo want di answer?”, then all of us, in the studio and those glued to the TV would we both at “Up chincherry, down chincherry, not a man can climb chincherry. Oonoo still doan know? ... Smoke!!!” and everyone would be laughing.
