Rohan Clarke Wins Gospel Song Contest PDF Print E-mail

The Bible says, 'Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.' For Rohan Clarke, the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission's (JCDC) Gospel 2k8 winner, this scripture has become a living testimony. Clarke's song, 'By Faith' has indeed moved mountains, and catapulted him to the top, over nine other competitors.

At the Competition finals held at the National Indoor Sports Centre recently, Clarke cemented his place as a clear crowd favourite. His song 'By Faith' was testimony to his personal philosophy to never quit. After unsuccessfully entering the competition in 2004, he decided to persevere and re-entered this year, copping the first place trophy, and $500,000 courtesy of Digicel, a recording contract for a single with Almond Productions, a Digicel cell phone and a Grace gift basket.

Second place went to Andrew Dixon, with his entry, 'God Is My Refuge' and Gamel Grant placed third with his song, 'Remember Heaven.' Another crowd favourite, Girvan Moore, walked away with the award for the most popular votes, and Kereen Gregory got the Allowed to Shine Ministries Award for congeniality. Damion Bell was adjudged best performer. All 10 finalists received $50,000 courtesy of the Jamaica Business Development Centre, and received gold medals from JCDC, as well as bibles from Word Time Ministries.

Guest performances for the night were provided by former Gospel Song winners Garfield Reid (2007) and Kevin Downswell (2003), but gospel sensations George Banton and DJ Nicholas were the artistes who really got the audience moving. DJ Nicholas invited Judith Gayle on stage to perform the duet Can't Stop It and Already Better. These songs got the audience dancing and even dropping dinki mini and revival moves.
