Miss Jamaica World Sashing |
Like the eager young women that they were, they lined up, sucked in their stomachs, put on their brightest smiles and got ready to dazzle the world. Sixteen young hopefuls stepped up, signed up and suited up for the challenge of vying for the coveted Miss Jamaica World title, crown, car and cash. The show at the poolside of the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel was their first full exposure to public scrutiny, wearing their new sashes. The glaring midday sun, the high humidity, the unpredictable wind and general lack of space for booths, sponsors, special guests and family and friends of the contestants made the location not as ideal as it sounded as oftentimes people walked precariously close to the edge of the pool. Thankfully the event happened without without mishap. The girls first appeared in tropical daywear designed by both Uzuri and Neah Lis, showing a bit of skin as they smiled, waved and walked out to huge applause from well wishers. Their second appearance in swimsuits by Mushroom meant it was time to show off those summer bodies and it was obvious that some needed a bit more work at the gym. Nevertheless they paraded in their colourful two piece bikinis buoyed by the training in posture courtesy of Bev Corke. After pageant coordinator Miss Jamaica World 2006 Sara Lawrence got them all lined up for photographs, it was time for the actual sashing and presentations by sponsors. The sashed contestants are
