'I Am Special' Children's CD Launched

Music educator Andre Adman is a man on a mission to affirm, edify and promote self-esteem and self worth among the nation’s children through music.

To this end he seized the opportunity to record a CD entitled ‘I Am Special’, along with the combined choir of the Wolmer’s Preparatory, Girls’ & Boys’ Schools where he teaches.

Speaking at the launch held in Kingston earlier this month, at the Wolmer’s Girls School auditorium, the Edna Manley graduate made it clear that he is on a mission to, “create appropriate music for children by writing songs which inspire, uplift and reinforce positive values and attitudes in children all over.”

He emphasised that songs for children should have tunes and lyrics which are fun and easy to remember. The CD contains 11 tracks with titles such as ‘Self Control’, ‘I Care’, ‘Meditation’, ‘One People’, ‘Better Now’ and the title track, ‘I Am Special’ and is already available at select music outlets.

Noting that it was not easy to get the project off the ground with sponsorship coming from only one company BCIC, he underscored that it is good to invest in children because they are great investments which bring enormous lifelong returns. “From an aesthetic point of view there should be special music created for and by children. I know it is entrenched in our culture to put them down and tell them they will not amount to anything but this is not true. Every child can become someone with our love, guidance, nurturing and protection.”

Adman, who is passionate about his mission to affirm children, told Chat-Bout in a short interview that the songs and symbols of the ‘I Am Special’ endeavour, are copyrighted and trade marked to secure financial resources to take his campaign to as many schools available to accommodate him.

He pointed out that starting it at his work place is a good way to have a test run and evaluate its effect on the children. He intends to take this method of affirmation to as many schools as possible.
