Bob Marley's handwritten lyrics to rake in big bucks PDF Print E-mail

Many consider him to be the greatest reggae singer of all time, and on December 10, a handwritten song from him could rake in £10,000 at a London auction.

The handwritten lyrics to the song Keep On Moving, from reggae legend Bob Marley, are to be put up for sale at Bonhams in London. The track is one from The Wailers' 1971 album, Soul Revolution, and is a rework of Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions' original, I Gotta Keep On Moving. The Wailers' cover of the song was the opening track on the 1971 album, which boasted the singles, Don't Rock My Boat and Sun is Shining.

According to news from www.mirror.co.uk, Marley scribbled down the lyrics to the Mayfield cover while recording during a session at Island Records in London in 1977. The single was produced by fellow reggae star, Lee 'Scratch' Perry.

In addition to changing the lyrics, Marley also personalised the song by making mention of his children Cedella and Ziggy Marley. Musicians playing on the track alongside the Wailers included members of Aswad, Third World and Jimmy Cliff's band.

In pictures posted to the Mirror's website, the lyrics are seen scribbled on pieces of paper with red ink. They are being sold by musician Dick Cuthell, who played horns on the 1977 Wailers album, Exodus, and was also involved in the mixing of hit songs Jammin' and Waiting in Vain.

Marley died from cancer in Florida on May 11, 1981. He was 36 years old.
