Sunshine Girls win opening match at Netball World Cup PDF Print E-mail
Jamaica's Sunshine Girls began their quest for a medal at this year's Netball World Cup with an easy 90 to 44 victory over Samoa at the Allphones Arena in Sydney, Australia yesterday.

 

The Jamaicans, began very quickly, jumping to a 25 to 9 first-quarter lead with Romelda Aiken and Jhaniele Fowler-Reid interchanging at the goal shoot position to good effect.

 

Aiken finished with 29 goals from 32 tries while Fowler-Reid netted 39 goals from 45 shots. 

 

Jamaica ended the second quarter, leading 45 to 24, before accelerating to 72 to 33 at the end of the third stanza.

 

Shanice Beckford at goal attack provided good support for Aiken, scoring 11 from 13 attempts, while the pairing between Anna Kay Griffiths and Fowler-Reid was also good.

 

This as Griffiths scored 11 goals from 16 tries. 

 

For Samoa, goal shooter Julianna Naoupu had 20 from 25 attempts while Goal attack Sanita Too bagged seven goals from 10.
