Jamaica ends Commonwealth Games on a netball high PDF Print E-mail

The 20th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland will go down in history as one of Jamaica's most successful.

The country finished with 22 medals, matching its best ever haul in  Melbourne in 2006, with the same 10 gold 4 silver and 8 bronze medals.

The Sunshine Girls ensured the record-matching medal with a 52-48 victory over England for bronze in the netball competition. This was their first medal at the Commonwealth Games since 2002.

Whereas the 22 medals saw Jamaica finish 7th in 2006, it was only good enough for 10th overall on this occasion.

England topped the medals table for the first time in 28 years with 174 medals, of which 58 were gold.

The games were brought to a close on Sunday evening with Lord Smith of Kelvin, Chairman of the Organizing Committee describing the competition throughout the event as top class.

The 21st edition of the Commonwealth Games will be hosted by Australia’s Gold Coast in 2018.
