Hutchinson For Jamaica Research Committee's NY Fundraiser

Jamaican author, actress and storyteller Joan Andrea Hutchinson will headline the performers for the Research Committee of Jamaica annual fundraising dinner party in New York this weekend.

The event will be held on Sunday, June 29, 2008 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the exquisite Jamaican owned and operated Nakasaki Restaurant located at 276 Fulton Avenue, Hempstead, Long Island.

This year, the organization will honor the founders of The New York Carib News, Dr. & Mrs. Karl Rodney. Contribution of $45 per person is in aid of The Research Committee’s Education Projects in Jamaica. According to Maureen Denton, Attorney at Law and Coordinator for the Research Committee, “On February 19 and 20, 2007, the Research Committee produced one of the most successful education conferences to date in Jamaica on “Making the Difference: Approaches to Improving Teaching and Learning in the Secondary School System.”

The conference was endorsed fully by then Minister of Education, The Honourable Maxine Henry Wilson and Dr. Trevor Sewell, Order of Distinction and Sector Leader of the Northeastern Region of the Jamaican Diaspora Program. The Research Committee of Jamaica is a New York based organization whose members are educators and concerned individuals involved in mounting projects to help schools in Jamaica.
