|Women’s Expo set for International Women’s Day|
The Women’s Resource and Outreach Centre Limited (WROC) in partnership with the Bureau of Gender/Women’s Affairs, the Institute of Gender & Development Studies Mona Unit, and the United Nations Population Fund will be hosting a special Women’s Expo.
The Expo is being held under the theme ‘Celebrating Women & Girls’ to commemorate International Women’s Day on Saturday, March 8, 2014 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at the University of the West Indies, Mona.
The Opening Ceremony will held at the UWI Undercroft from 10:00 am-11:00 am. Mrs. Jacqueline Sharp; the first female President and CEO of the Scotia Group will be the Guest Speaker. This will be followed by the Women’s Expo at which over 30 companies and groups will present activities and exhibitions of their work. The Expo will run from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm on the lawns adjacent the Assembly Hall on the Mona campus.
The programme will also include presentations on issues affecting women’s sexual and reproductive health, empowerment, legal rights and children’s rights. The event is open to the public and will be streamed live via UWI TV. There will be financial coaching, empowerment sessions as well as beauty consultations-all tailored for women.
Entertainment will be provided by female entertainers in keeping with the theme. Health checks and a range of services will also be provided by established service providers in the industry. The day’s activities will culminate with a fundraising fete at the Deck in recognition of WROC’s 31st anniversary.
The Women’s Resource and Outreach Centre is an NGO which serves the communities of Lyndhurst/Greenwich. The organization was founded on International Women’s Day, March 8, 1983. Over its 31 year existence, WROC has facilitated a number of empowerment programmes while operating a Homework Centre, Medical Clinic, counselling services which assist women to identify means of livelihood as well as workshops to prepare women for leadership on boards.
