Jamaica Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller left the country Saturday for a three-day visit to Japan.

Simpson Miller is leading a delegation including Energy Minister Philip Paulwell, Ambassador Paul Robotham, Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister Onika Miller and other staff.

The trip will include a meeting with Imperial Prince Akishino and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

According to a government statement, the Prime Minister will “use this opportunity to further strengthen the friendship and cooperation between Jamaica and Japan, one of our longstanding diplomatic partners.”

Simpson Miller will also attend the Inter-American Development Bank’s Japan—Latin America and the Caribbean Conference.

Several Japanese firms are currently investing in Jamaica, including Nippon Light Metals, and Simpson Miller will be holding talks with some of these firms.

Simpson Miller will return to Jamaica on Nov. 9. Finance Minister Dr Peter Phillips will serve as Acting Prime Minister.
