Tuff Gong- Retooling And Getting Set For Big Tings PDF Print E-mail

January, 2009 should usher in more than just a new year for Tuff Gong International Limited. The 27-year-old company's plant, located at 220 Marcus Garvey Drive, Kingston, houses its studio, manufacturing, distribution and record units.

Recently, the vinyl manufacturing and stamper sections were closed for refurbishing, which is expected to be completed by the start of the new year, as part of plans to revamps the company's look and upgrade its offerings, with a more tourism-oriented focus in mind.

While the facility is not an official tourist attraction, they already receive numerous visitors from all over the world, as many Bob Marley and reggae fans come to see the internationally renowned facility.

Educational groups in the island also sometimes tour the compound, which is viewed as a historic resource. Increased concentration on conducting tours of the premises, therefore, is expected to increase their profits.

In light of the fact that the vinyl business no longer produces the high levels of returns it once did, the studio will also be upgrading its antiquated equipment, to make business more cost-efficient. The old machinery will be used as part of the tours that will be conducted on the grounds, and these tours will be coupled with tours at the Bob Marley Museum.

Visitors can also record their own songs or sing over Bob Marley tracks, recorded on CDs or vinyl. They can also buy Tuff Gong/Bob Marley memorabilia to take back home with them, as a reminder of the experience.
