“There is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good humor.” – Charles Dickens

And good humor was definitely in the air at the recent staging of Comedytainment held at the Red Bones Café in Kingston.

The snickering started with emcee Jerry Benzwick who had to remind himself that he was not one of the booked acts for the show and his simple role was to guide the programme along which he did with comedic ease and satiric verse.

The first act of the night, Dufton Shephard was pure delight for the audience, as he appeared on stage in proper ‘bleaching’ attire to share everyday personal tales laced with humour. Especially jaw -dropping was his story of being caught with his pants down and not having the good sense to run fast enough. He was a proverbial comedian who chose great punch lines that resonated with the audience and came off the stage in good time leaving the audience hungry for more.

And more we got when the lone female of the evening, Elva took the stage with her effervescent personality and sharp wit. She assured the men in the audience that she was there for them and entertained them with her stories about women and their struggle to maintain their sexy. One particular hilariously funny joke was her “president of the wig wears association of Jamaica” routine. She mentioned she has a wig for all occasion and always have one on her person in particular in her ‘bosom’ as ‘anything can happen, and you need to draw for a wig just like that’

Dr. Michael Abrahams brought a different flavor with his academic, intellectual and social commentary and so totally at home on this stage. His commentating was on point and sometime hit very hard throwing words at the likes of the Reverend Al Miller and the Hon. K.D. Knight and gave the audience insights into his early family life and growing up with his perhaps ‘abusive’ father.  He finished off his set with a very amusing sports commentary from the ‘sex olympics’.

Patrons unwillingly left the venue satiated with laughter as all had a good time.
