HRH Prince Michael Of Kent Arrives April 15

Jamaica is getting ready to welcome member of the British Royal family, His Royal Highness, Prince Michael Of Kent, who will arrive on April 15 for a five-day visit.

While on the island, Prince Michael will stay at King’s House, where on Tuesday, April 16, he will attend a special luncheon hosted by Governor-General, His Excellency the Most Hon. Sir Patrick Allen.

He will also pay an official visit to the Sir John Golding Rehabilitation Centre and the Mona Geo-Informatics Institute, at the University of the West Indies.

On Wednesday April 17, the Prince will call on Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller, followed by Opposition Leader, Andrew Holness.

Later in the evening, he will attend a special 20th anniversary banquet hosted by the National Road Safety Council (NRSC) at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel. The banquet will honour former Prime Ministers as well as confer a posthumous award on Sir John Golding, founder of the Council.

The Prince is the Royal Patron for the Commission for Global Road Safety and Patron of the non-profit organization, Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), both of which have been leading advocates in the fight to reduce road traffic injuries and deaths.

He will take part in several activities to mark the NRSC’s 20th anniversary, including a visit to the Mona Primary School on April 17, where the students will be issued with safety instructions in a simulated road traffic environment.

The Prince will also participate in a Roundtable Discussion at the Ministry of Transport, Works and Housing the same day.

Vice-Chairman/Convenor, NRSC, Dr. Lucien Jones, expressed confidence that the five-day visit of such a high ranking road safety advocate, will greatly assist “in the efforts of the NRSC to raise the level of awareness of the importance of road safety for any nation and in particular for a small developing nation like ours.”

Dr. Jones also expects the visit to strengthen the bonds of friendship and deepen the relationships which the NRSC has forged with the international community.

The NRSC 20th anniversary week of celebratory activities will begin with a Church Service on April 14 at the St. Andrew (Anglican) Parish Church.
