Cricket star, Chris Gayle launches record label

Highly acclaimed West Indian cricketer, Chris Gayle is venturing into the entertainment world as he and his older brother, Vanclive 'Father Bulla' Parris have launched a new record label and promotions company dubbed Dutty Fridaze Promotions.

The duo has already signed two new acts, including former Digicel Rising Stars contestant, Face and will be releasing their first compilation, the War Crime Riddim in the coming weeks. Additionally, Parris has hned that Gayle himself could be recording a song with an established Dancehall artiste under the Dutty Fridaze label.

Gayle, who has another brother within the music industry, told the Jamaica STAR that starting an entertainment entity was something he had long considered.

"As a sportsman, I am always in the streets and I love the music, and I know a lot of artistes. So, this is not something I am new to,” Gayle said. “In the past, I have organised charity parties and events to raise funds for worthy causes. I have helped to raise funds to buy sporting equipment for schools all over the island. So, this is just a natural progression for me to get involved in other events and other aspects of entertainment by doing dancehall events and getting into artiste production and management.”

Parris alluded to licensing paperwork as being the final hurdle to make their venture official and says he feels good working alongside his brother.

"It's about getting the groundwork done,” he said. “It's an honour to be working with Chris Gayle, it makes my job easier, and when I took the business idea to him, he had no second guess.”

Dutty Fridaze Promotions will be hosting its first event, the Clarendon Fun Day and Foam and Water Party on Mar. 31. The event will feature entertainers such as Gyptian, Munga and Chi Ching Ching.

Gayle inadvertently gained popularity in the entertainment world after doing the trademark Gangnam Style dance during the West Indies cricket team's victorious run at the 2012 20/20 World Cup in Sri Lanka. A song promoting his version of the dance was later touted, called the Chris Gayle Cover Drive. However, the song failed to materialize.
