Marley - The Definitive Story PDF Print E-mail

Marley, the definitive documentary of the life, music and legacy of Bob Marley will have an unprecedented premiere in Jamaica on April 19, 2012 at the Emancipation Park, with free admission to the Jamaican public.

The red, gold and green carpet premiere will be held at the Emancipation Park in Kingston, a landmark location that can accommodate over 5,000 patrons and will be officially recognized as a part of Jamaica’s 50th Anniversary celebrations. The Marley Family is pleased to provide Jamaicans with the first opportunity to view the film before it is official release on April 20, 2012.

“Bob Marley is a son of the Jamaican soil, and now Jamaicans along with the rest of the world, will have an opportunity to experience and see the reality not fantasy that chronicles his journey through stardom… they will see the true story of Bob Marley (Berhane Selassie) – “The Light of the Trinity”, stated Mrs. Rita Marley.

The 2 hours and 24 minute film directed by Academy Award winning Director, Kevin MacDonald is the only authorized documentary on the life and global impact of Bob Marley and features numerous interviews from family members, friends and former band members as well as historical concert footage and rare recordings.

"The most important audience for MARLEY is obviously the Jamaican one - so I'm absolutely thrilled that we are able to give the film a free, public premiere. I hope that even Bob's home audience - the people who know him best - learn something new from the film and come away with a renewed love for the music of Bob Marley and the Wailers,” stated Kevin MacDonald.

Jamaicans can look forward to a spectacular night filled with local and international celebrities, members of the reggae music fraternity and Jamaicans from all walks of life coming together to celebrate the life of a Legend.

Magnolia Pictures will release MARLEY theatrically, digitally and through Video on Demand on April 20th, 2012. The film was produced by Steve Bing of Shangri-La Entertainment and Charles Steel of Cowboy Films.  Executive Produced by Ziggy Marley and Island Records founder Chris Blackwell in conjunction with Tuff Gong Pictures.
