Usain Bolt, Yohan Blake could race before Jamaican trials PDF Print E-mail

Usain Bolt and Jamaican teammate Yohan Blake may race earlier next year than expected, according to a Reuters report.

Glen Mills, who trains both sprinters, said the two could meet before their scheduled showdown at the Jamaican Olympic trials in June, according to the Reuters story. Bolt and Blake are among the heavy favorites at next summer's London Games; the 100 meters is Aug. 5.

Bolt, Blake and Asafa Powell should be locks to make the Jamaican team. Powell, who missed worlds last year with a groin injury, recently announced he's planning to make his indoor debut at the U.S. Open in New York on Jan. 28 at Madison Square Garden. Powell, 29, held the 100-meter world record for three years before Bolt broke it in 2008.

Another Jamaican sprinter, Steve Mullings, was banned for life last month by the Jamaican Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel after it ruled he had used a banned diuretic. Mullings is expected to appeal the decision.

American Tyson Gay, who beat Bolt for the first time in 2010, told ESPN.com this fall that he may try to run in an indoor meet in February after undergoing hip surgery in July.

Bolt said in November he'd consider adding the 4x400 relay if he's fit and Jamaica can win gold.
