Jamaica’s new Prime Minister the Hon. Andrew Holness takes the leadership of his Caribbean nation “in an era characterized by unprecedented challenges and phenomenal developments that are reverberating indiscriminately throughout the international community.

So says St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister and current Chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, who expressed congratulations on behalf of the Government and People of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.

“Inspired by your own vision for the betterment of your country and the well being of the proud people of Jamaica, there is no doubt that you would initiate the changes that, in your view, would engender the requisite reform in areas of priority and advance the thrust towards sustainment of best practices, especially in these critical times,” Dr. Douglas said in a congratulatory message to Prime Minister Holness who assumed office on Sunday.

“There is no doubt that you will draw on the institutional capabilities of your proud predecessor who had commenced many initiatives that were designed to positively impact the lives of the people of Jamaica and whose informed and meaningful interventions in the representation of his country, have contributed to the decision making process, especially at the level of the Community,” said Dr. Douglas.

He said he is convinced that the confidence reposed in “your good self by the Government and people of Jamaica will inspire your own determination to stay the course as you take the helm of government as their ninth and most youthful Prime Minister of your beloved country.”

“As you embark on the awesome task of leadership in these challenging times, there is no doubt that your keen understanding of the issues and priorities that confront us all will be the driving force for your success,” said Dr. Douglas, who added:

“St. Kitts and Nevis and the Caribbean Community as a whole look forward to continued close collaboration with you and the Government and people of Jamaica.”
