A large low pressure system 900 miles east of the Lesser Antilles has a 80% chance of becoming a tropical cyclone.
The system has a high chance, 80% of becoming a tropical cyclone as "environmental conditions appear favourable for a tropical depression to form over the next couple of days" as it moves west-northwestward at 15-20 miles per hour, the National Hurricane Centre said this afternoon in an advisory issued at 2:00 p.m. Barbados time.

The National Hurricane Centre is also monitoring a tropical wave over the northwestern Caribbean Sea which continues to produce disorganised shower and thunderstrorm activity.

According to the latest NHC report the system will bring heavy rain to portions of Central America and Mexico over the wekend however no significant development is expected.

The 2011 hurricane season has been forecasted to have a well above average probability of United States and Caribbean major hurricane landfall according to Philip J. Klotzbach and William M. Gray of the Department of Atmospheric Science, Colorado State University. The season is expected to see about 9 hurricanes, 17 named storms and 5 major hurricanes.
