Powell wins 100 meters in 9.86 in Hungary PDF Print E-mail

Asafa Powell won the 100-meter race in 9.86 seconds at the Hungarian Grand Prix, the fastest run in the country.

 

The Jamaican was the only competitor to run under 10 seconds on Saturday, finishing ahead of Ngonidzashe Makusha of Zimbabwe and Andres Hinds of Barbados.

 

Powell will compete at the Aviva Grand Prix Diamond League meet in London next weekend. It's his last race before the world championships, which start August 27 in Daegu, South Korea.

 

Veronica Campbell-Brown of Jamaica won the 200 in 22.26 seconds, with Sanya Richards-Ross of the United States second in 22.63. Blessing Okagbare of Nigeria was third.

 

Sprinter Steve Mullings continued his impressive form to win the sprint double at Terra Sarda athletics meeting in Italy today.

 

He won the 100 metres in 9.93 seconds.

 

Mullings later returned to complete the double by winning the 200m in 20.22 seconds.

 

Shericka Williams easily won the women's 400 metres in 51.06.

 

Female sprinter Sherone Simpson, placed second in the women's 100 metres behind American Alexandria Anderson.
