Best Dressed Fest 50 - A Major Success PDF Print E-mail

With over $71 Million dollars invested in ‘Best Dressed 50 Fest’, you knew that the Jamaica Broilers Group was going to put on a show that had to be spectacular,- as the money spent was no ‘chicken feed’.

Kingston saw a first class event that ran like clock work. Their way of giving back on their 50th anniversary to a country that has embraced them. The quality of the organization was phenomenal as even the bathrooms were state of the art with air conditioning! In the midst of all the stunts and stage performances, the message of salvation was strong as hundreds stepped up and committed themselves to God’s saving grace.

ImageOn day two of the capital city’s leg of ‘50 Fest’ there was a record number of visitors as Sunday has long been reserved for the church going community to venture forth after service. Old people, young people, babies in strollers and grandmothers with walkers – families made it a real outing.  The BMX bikers’ were in the middle of their stunt when Chat-Bout arrived at mid afternoon.

Lots of thrills and few spills took place as the crowd could not get enough to the acrobatic aerial moves of the riders. The free style motor cross stunt men were even more daring as they went more than 40 feet in the air at which time they got off their seats, or completely get go of the handles. Spectators held their breath each time they went airborne, doing stunts with names like ‘side-winder’ ‘lazy boy’ and ‘dead body’. The final stunt was a complicated one involving two riders on the ramp who attempted to get their feet to touch in mid air. They didn’t quite pull it off but the crowd was appreciative nonetheless.

One of the riders Uriel Luebike took some time afterwards to testify as to his own experience of drifting away from his early Christian upbringing to a life of sex, drugs and addiction. At the end of his testimony, many were called to leave their seats and accept the free gift of God. The next segment was the main concert and the anticipation of Prodigal’s performance was huge as the crowd surged forward like moths to a flame to hear the dapper one belt out his hit ‘Blessings A Run Me Down’.

Dressed in a three piece pin striped light coloured suit he was the consummate showman as he had young and old eating out of his hands with ‘Tell Me if You Ready’.  Rags and newspapers were being waved as the sea of people reacted to every line and every lyric he uttered. Jacket discarded he began to testify, going back to a decade ago when he was a gunman wanted by police. Life had not dealt him a good deck of cards as he was abandoned by his mother shortly after birth and grew up on the street. Jesus however, he preached, took hold of him and no threat, temptation or distraction can make him renounce his faith.

Reverend Carlene Davis came next with ‘Rock Me Jesus’ and aided by some energetic back up dancers she delivered ‘Lift Your Voice’ and the popular ‘Forever Friend’. She then took it old school with a few revival hits like ‘In the Name Of Jesus’ and ‘What A Mighty God We Serve’. Gospel rapper Toby Mac came out with a bang with the punch line “I‘m a legal alien, I’m a white boy who loves Jesus” and the crowd loved every bit of it. His cross over reggae/ rock had a funky edge that went over well. He later explained that he was able to relate to Jamaicans so well because he was married to one. His wife is one of Robert Levy’s daughter. “Jamaican girls are the best in the world and I should know because I married one and we have five pickney, all Jam-ericans.”

Powerful yet professional he commanded the stage along with his crew with ‘Whop Se Daisy’, ‘Hush Little Baby’ and ‘I Got A Ticket’ to the delight of the crowd who reveled in the change of pace.  At the end of it all people felt that it was money well spent, and many continue to sing the praises of Jamaica broilers for staging such an exciting event, free to the Jamaican people, as the company gives back to Jamaica.
