Watching the Tropics...As Another Disturbance Develops |
The 2011 hurricane season is still very young but another disturbance is being watched for possible development.
There is an area of low pressure about 100 miles south of Jamaica. Right now, it is stationary and producing showers and thunderstorms over the west central Caribbean Sea. Upper level winds are conducive for some strengthening over the next few days. There is a 30% chance that will happen over the next 48 hours.
The system will continue to be monitored but for now, there should be heavy rains and possibly flooding and mudslides in Haiti, The Dominican Republic, Jamaica and parts of Cuba. National Hurricane Center
