Cassia Park gully closed for 12 months PDF Print E-mail

The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising the public that the Cassia Park Ford in St. Andrew will be closed for 12 months starting on Monday.

The NWA says the closure is to facilitate the Ford’s replacement with a steel girder bridge.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw, says the Ford is being replaced in order to make the corridor more reliable for use in all weather.

Motorists and pedestrians have over the years risked their lives using the roadway, which floods when it rains.

Shaw says the new bridge, which is to cost $151 million, will span 38 metres with reinforced concrete foundation and sidewalks with protective rails.

He says the roadway will be realigned to facilitate construction of the bridge, the approaches paved with Asphaltic Concrete and the floors of the waterway rehabilitated.

Due to the closure of the Cassia Park Ford, motorists heading towards Half-Way Tree from Washington Boulevard are being advised to drive along Red Hills Road or via Eastwood Park Gardens.

The reverse obtains when travelling from Half Way Tree in the direction of Washington Boulevard or Meadowbrook.
