The Turntable Restaurant – the Eatery of Choice for Reggae’s Superstars PDF Print E-mail

The Turntable Restaurant & Lounge is one of the Greater Toronto Area’s (GTA) best kept secret.

It has fed some of the biggest names in the reggae music industry. As owner Grandmaster Rosa puts it, “when you visit The Turntable, you have a 90% chance of running into a celebrity.”

Established in 2009, this quaint celebrity hang out is located at 7171 Torbram Road, Mississauga, Ontario.

Only minutes from Pearson International Airport, it allows for easy access from Brampton, Malton and Toronto. Upon entering the restaurant, one cannot help but feel the warm, inviting and delightful Jamaican ambiance. From the reggae music playing in the background, the friendly staff to the display of reggae stars on the wall, you are not only compelled to feel at home, but know you are in for an awesome time.

This Jamaican eatery has catered to the likes of Beres Hammond, Richie Stephens, Freddie McGreggor, John Holt, Frankie Paul, Bonnie Casey, Steele, Tony Anthony, Marcia Griffiths, Copeland Forbes, Tinga Stewart, Stone Love Crew and Spice . When asked if the original plan was to cater to celebrities, manager Sandra Sylburne said, “ The original intend was to create an environment that is warm, cozy and inviting. Most importantly, to ensure we provide the best quality food for our patrons. We treat each customer like a VIP.

This is true for a superstar like Beres Hammond to the one foot man walking in with his pegleg. Its about maximum respect” she said.

This philosophy to treat everyone like a VIP, has paid off in a huge way. Most of the clients who visit usually return and spread the word about the quality food they ate. Another key to the success of the eatery is the menu.

“We specialize in authentic Jamaican cuisine including fish and other sea foods, rice & peas, oxtail, curry goat and various soup dishes. The most popular menu item is steamed fish made to the patron’s liking” Sylburne disclosed.

“Our success is based on many contributing factors including Rosa’s longevity in the music business. This has helped to attract a number of high profile clients. Another attraction is our Sunday night oldies showcase.

This is a very popular hangout for Torontonians and others in and around the GTA. Usually by 11:00 pm on a Sunday night, The Turntable is packed to capacity” she noted.
