NBC To Search For America’s Best Voice

The television network NBC has teamed up with Mark Burnett for the next reality competition that will search for America’s best voice.

Called ‘The Voice’ it will be hosted by Carson Daly (‘Last Call with Carson Daly’).

Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera are just two of the four celebrities who will coach in the series, which features three phases of competition.

The first phase will begin with a blind audition, then the competition enters into a battle phase, and finally, the live performance shows.

As participants perform during the blind auditions, they will be selected by a celebrity coach, who will each form a team of singers that they will coach and mentor throughout the competition and ultimately groom to become stars.

Individuals will be eliminated each week until each celebrity only has one team member left. From these four, one will be named ‘The Voice’ and will receive the grand prize of a recording contract in a live finale.

Although it shares similarities to the reality TV show ‘American Idol,’ host Daly says it’s a whole different format.

“There’s blind auditions in the beginning and there’s the mentoring battle round, so the format of the show is very different.”

“It isn’t about tearing people down, or picking them apart in a negative way,” adds Aguilera. “As human beings, we instinctively judge people based on the way they walk, the way they talk and their stage presence. I love the fact that I get to sit here with my face and my back turned away from these people. I get to completely use just one sense alone and that is to hear these voices. I’m looking forward to getting moved by raw talent.”

‘The Voice’ is a presentation of Talpa Productions, Mark Burnett and Warner Horizon Television and will premiere on Tuesday, April 26 at 9PM ET/PT.
