Tourism Minister Ed Bartlett is seeking to assure that all will be in place for the opening of the new Falmouth Cruise Ship Pier on March 22.
Bartlett gave the assurance following a meeting with tourism stakeholders today after two days of strike action by 450 workers at the construction site. The industrial action has resulted in the delay of the cruise ship, Navigator of the Sea, from calling to port on Friday. The tourism minister says following today’s discussions it was agreed that the ship will now arrive on February 17. On the matter of the preparedness of Falmouth, Bartlett says while work has yet to be completed in the Town, he is satisfied that all will be in place for the opening of the cruise ship pier. Meanwhile Jamaica Labour Party caretaker for North Trelawny, Senator Dennis Meadows, says the potential for instability at the Falmouth Cruise Ship Pier remains. He says though the workers are back on the job, the issues over which they went on strike have still not been resolved. Senator Meadows says two of the Ministry of Labour’s top technocrats are expected to visit the work site tomorrow in an effort to have the matters resolved.
