Caribbean’s ‘Most Wanted’ PDF Print E-mail

America’s Most Wanted is well known around the world but did you know there is a Caribbean Most Wanted as well?

Since November 2009, ten Caribbean jurisdictions have used the Caribbean Most Wanted website as a mechanism to help locate and arrest criminal suspects.

That’s according to the journal, International Enforcement Law Reporter.

The jurisdictions that participate in the programme are Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Mexico, Trinidad and Tobago, and the Turks and Caicos Islands.

The programme and website (www.caribbeanmostwanted.com) allows the police from each of these countries to have the opportunity to post text and photographs of individuals wanted in connection with various crimes.

The Law Reporter said that in the first month of its existence, one fugitive from Bermuda was captured within Bermuda after two years as a fugitive.

“The programme illustrates the growing cooperation among police and law enforcement in the Caribbean and Latin America,” said editor-in-chief Bruce Zagaris.

The website says it aims to make it harder than ever for criminals to hide.

“Visitors to Most Wanted – Caribbean, Bermuda and Latin America can help to bring these criminals to justice – Caribbean Most Wanted”

“Whether criminals remain in the countries they committed their crimes or move abroad, this website means that everybody has access to information about who is wanted in the Caribbean, Bermuda and Latin America.

Caribbean Most Wanted

“Visitors to Most Wanted – Caribbean, Bermuda and Latin America can help to bring these criminals to justice, by identifying them, telling us where they might be or simply providing any information that could help to solve the crime.”

The programme operates under the rules of the international Crime Stoppers charity, which guarantees anonymity to providers of information.

Devrol Dupigny, Crime Stoppers Director, told the Journal that the programme and website were “a welcome addition to the agency’s intelligence gathering capability,” especially as travel among the islands has become easier.

Each appeal on the website states the contact information for the relevant Crime Stoppers program.

For example, if an appeal is about a criminal wanted by the Jamaican authorities, the contact details for Crime Stoppers Jamaica will be displayed where it says ‘Recognize this person?’
