New airports being developed in Jamaica PDF Print E-mail

The Jamaican government has approved plans to create a network of airports through its island.

Rehabilitation work on the Boscobel aerodrome, located 10km west of the Ocho Ríos tourist town in northern Jamaica, will kick of the project, with Vernamfield aerodrome next.

Boscobel has no fuelling facilities or night flight equipment and the Vernamfield aerodrome has been inactive since the US air force's lease to operate it expired in 1999.

Boscobel will be the third international port of entry into Jamaica will be equipped with immigration and customs facilities.

The program will eventually also involve the development of road, sea, rail and air services.
