Contribution of Jamaicans Recognized at US Veteran's Day Concert PDF Print E-mail

Jamaica's contribution to the fight for freedom took the spotlight as the United States (US) marked Veterans Day on Wednesday, November 4 in Washington D.C.

The Veterans National Medical Musical Group (VA-NMMG) recognised the role of ex-service men and women from Jamaica and 12 other countries, at its annual Veterans Day concert held at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Washington D.C.

The symphony orchestra and chorale of more than 200 medical practitioners from across the US performed for about two hours at the concert, which was held under the theme: 'Healing for the Nation'.

In his brief address, Secretary General of the VA-NMMAG, Mr. Craig Duehing, told the large audience that Jamaica was being recognized for the tremendous contribution and sacrifice made by its ex-service men in fighting for the freedom that Americans now enjoy.

"This concert was just one of the ways to show our appreciation to them," said Mr. Duehing, adding that the VA-NMMG hopes to be able to perform in Jamaica in the future.

Security Attaché with the Embassy of Jamaica, Mr. Clifford Chambers, who attended the concert, said that he was very honoured to represent his country at such an occasion.

He commended the VA-NMMG for recognising the contribution that Jamaican ex-service men and women have made. "This is a great time to honour our veterans," he remarked.

Mr. Chambers also praised the group of doctors and healthcare workers, who make up the Symphony and Chorale for providing a remarkable musical experience at the Veterans Day concert.

The VA-NMMG is a non-profit organisation and is the largest medical musical group in the United States. Its mission is to perform music with a message of inspiration, healing and national unity.
