Criticism over Obama’s Nobel award PDF Print E-mail

The Taliban is criticising the decision to award the Nobel Peace Prize to US president Barack Obama.

In making the award the nobel committee highlighted Mr Obama's efforts to support international bodies and promote nuclear disarmament.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the award is ridiculous.

He’s contending that Mr Obama should have been given the award for escalating violence and killing civilians.

Since taking office in January, President Obama has pursued an ambitious international agenda including a push for peace in the Middle East and negotiations over Iran's nuclear programme.

However critics say he has failed to make breakthroughs.

Meanwhile, other critics say they see the prize as a way of encouraging the US leader early in his presidency.
