Alton
It’s been 10 months since the passing of Reggae legend Alton Ellis, and those closest to him continue to remember his music, and his impact on the industry.

Veteran producer Bernie Pitters and award winning singer Jay Douglas, both from Canada, teamed with Jamaica’s most celebrated group, Fab 5 to re-record the music for one of Alton’s greatest songs, “Breaking Up”. As a special honour, Pitters, Douglas and Fab 5 asked Canada’s songbird, Tanya Mullings, to perform the lead vocals. “That request came as an honour as Alton was a very close family friend,” says Tanya.

The single is set to be released world-wide this month, and has received the Blessings of Ellis’s family.

Alton Ellis, crowned the Godfather of Rocksteady (the bridge between Ska and Reggae) was a regular on the music charts in Jamaica with hits such as “Breaking Up”, and “I’m Just a Guy”. Ellis recorded with producing greats Sir Coxsone Dodd and Duke Reid. He recorded many songs for Trojan Records based in the UK. Ellis lived in Canada for a time before calling England ‘home’.
