Members of communications and dramatic arts fraternity are paying tribute to the work of well known playwright, actor and director, Trevor Rhone who died this afternoon.

Mr. Rhone who was 69 years old died in hospital after suffering a heart attack.

He’s best known for a series of plays that are ranked among the finest in local theatre, including Smile Orange, Old Story Time and Two Can Play.

Mr. Rhone also co-wrote the 1972 screenplay for The Harder They Come-, the first Jamaican movie, and also served as a resident playwright at the Barn Theatre.

Playwright Basil Dawkins recalls Mr. Rhone’s scrupulous attention to detail.

Meanwhile Dr. Hopeton Dunn, a director at the Mona School of Business believes Trevor Rhone’s memory can best be honoured by more attention to the country’s cultural industry.

In 2003, Mr. Rhone staged the autobiographical one-man play, Bellas Gate Boy, which was nominated for an Actor Boy Award, Jamaica’s version of America’s Tony Awards.

He was also a recipient of the Commander of the Order of Distinction and is survived by three children and a grandchild.
