Popular Jamaican comedian Oliver Samuels joins the cast of the new Big Yard and plays the lead role as Merle. He operates a business from his handcart, and he is also the source of food supplies and gossip in the ‘big yard’.

The talented and dynamic cast of the new Big Yard also includes Terri Salmon (Daisy), the vivacious female in the play, who has aspirations of improving her life. She hopes to migrate after getting married to her fiancé who lives in Toronto, Canada. She also has a hidden agenda for living in the ‘big yard’.

This comedy/drama is set in Spanish Town, Jamaica, where a diverse group of individuals lives in a tenement yard. The new Big Yard has musical scores and storyline changes that depict present happenings in Jamaica. The new Big Yard includes a touching twist of faith in Daisy’s life relating to her parents.

John Phillips (Mr. Richards), the rent collector, tries to solicit favors from Daisy in return for free rent. He is usually intoxicated; however, he is very businesslike when he visits the ‘big yard’ to collect rent. Tim Wagner (Mr. White) is a Caucasian Canadian who lives in the ‘big yard’. Mr. White is a Rastafarian and he uses his religious beliefs to pacify arguments between Merle, Mr. Richards, and Daisy. Damian Brown (Spot Lamp) and Tashanta Whyte (Twitter) complement the story very well.

The new Big Yard is highly recommended for the entire family. It will bring laughter and enjoyment to everyone. It is a dramatization of Jamaican life experiences that should not be missed.

The new Big Yard will play in Markham at the Markham Theatre on August 23. The play will also be staged in Brampton, Oshawa, Ottawa, and other cities.
