Three reggae icons will again grace the stage of the Center for a second performance to be held on Sunday, March 29.

ImageFollowing an impressive debut last year of the Reggae Symphony, at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts (BCPA), three reggae icons will again grace the stage of the Center for a second performance to be held on Sunday, March 29.

The premiere performance "Reggae Symphony 2009" will feature reggae ambassador Freddie McGregor, reggae songstress Marcia Griffiths, and veteran singer and songwriter, Bob Andy. Saxophonist Dean Fraser will also make a guest appearance.

The three artists who have made international stage names individually, will be accompanied by Lloyd Parkes' We the People Band, and the Reggae Strings Orchestra as they perform from an extensive repertoire of recordings.

All three performers have been awarded the Commander of Distinction by the Government of Jamaica for their achievements, and contributions to the development of the island's musical heritage.

Reggae Symphony was introduced to the Broward Center following an alliance forged with the Consulate General of Jamaica, resulting in a range of successful performances, including the National Dance Theatre Company of Jamaica, Dem Three Jamaican Tenors, and Jamaica Farewell. The Broward Center also housed the annual Reggae Soca Awards, produced by veteran South Florida media personality, Winsome Charlton of Hi Class Promotions.

Newly appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of the BCPA, Kelly Shanley, in expressing enthusiasm about the upcoming event, pledged to continue working with the Jamaican Diaspora in promoting the island's rich culture and creating cultural experiences that can be inclusive for the diverse community in South Florida.

Last year's sold-out performance included John Holt and Freddie McGregor who thrilled a packed house of nearly 3,000 patrons and friends of the Broward Center.

Presentation of this genre of music in its classical presentation has captivated audiences on several world stages like Madison Square Gardens and Lincoln Center in New York, the Hammerstein Ballroom in London as well as in Canada and Jamaica.

The Broward Theatre is home to many international artists and world-class performances.
