Saturday night, August 15, before a packed ballroom at the Hilton Kingston Hotel, Brittany Lyons walked away with the title Miss Jamaica World 2008.
The 19 year old, who wore the sash Miss Logo Stitch, faced stiff competition from 2nd place winner (1st Princess) Jade Grant, Miss Guardian Fencing and 3rd place winner (2nd Princess) Marshagay Reynolds, Miss Quality Dealers Limited but in the end prevailed and was popularly received by the audience. Raecine Williams, Miss Geddes Refrigeration and Chaka Laguerre, Miss OCS Electrical & Lighting rounded out the Top 5.
Miss Jamaica World 2008 is the daughter of Marie-Clare Delapenha who gave a highly competitive challenge for this same title to Michele Harris in 1980 before settling for 2nd Place. She is also the granddaughter of famed Jamaican athlete and media personality, Linda Delapenha. Miss Jamaica World 1st Princess (2nd place winner) Jade Grant is the daughter of Deonne Brown, also a former Miss Jamaica World Pageant Finalist.
Miss Lyons, who also won the pageant’s Beach Beauty Fast Track Competition, will now start her preparation to represent Jamaica in the 2008 Miss World Contest. Source: www.missjamaicaworld.com |
