100m Athlete's Mike Chat

ImageThere are a handful of days in Sporting history that become legendary, when one is cherished to say I was there... Listen to the  response from the IAAF, Kerron Stewart, Lauren Williams among others.

ImageOlive McNaughton, On Spot in Beijing. Last night, August 16th in "Bird's Nest" Arena ,Beijing China was one such day. The supporting acts of the evening were building to an inevitable crescendo. Jamaica was omnipresent and dominant on the track throughout the evening. The 3 leading times in the women's 100m qtr finals belonged to Kerron Stewart,Shelly-ann Frazier and Sherone Simpson. Kerron Stewart was in confident and imperious form. Listen interviews from:

IAAF Official re US Protest

Kerron Stewart

Tricia Smith

Lauren Williams

Sherone Simpson

Ministers Olivia 'Babsy' Grange and Ed Bartlett

What a night to be Jamaican... Just wearing a yellow and green shirt and speaking with a funny accent made you an instant celebrity. We were giving photo opportunities to sports fans of all nationalities. Media from all over the world were asking for interviews with anyone remotely jamaican :
- Are you a friend of Usain Bolt?
- Do you live in the same city?
- Do you know the Prime Minister of Jamaica?
- Are you someone famous?

In the midst of the national euphoria, spare a thought for our other hero, Asafa Powell. Never was the Joy of victory and the agony of defeat more in evidence than the equally dramatic inability of Asafa to perform once again at the highest level. It is testimony to how endeared Asafa is to Jamaican sport fans that in the midst of what was one of the signature moments in Jamaican sporting history much of the celebration in the stadium was muted by his disapapointing performance. Asafa, has for the past 3 years been the sporting icon that put Jamaican sprinting back on the map and moved the art of sprinting to another level. We look forward to the 4x100m relay when he will achieve his 1st Olympic gold as part of a world-record breaking sprint team. In the light of what has already happened in Beijing, why not indeed..
