Hear about Ricardo Lynch, Nickesha Wilson, Bobby Gaye Wilkins, Olivia McKoy and Dorian Scott mental readiness for the Olympic challenge...
Olive Olive McNaughton reporting from Beijing - Blue skies appeared over Beijing for the 1st time in days, signaling for many track & Field pundits the beginning of the real Olympics as 90k fans packed the Bird's Nest for the start of Track & FIeld. For a country with 6B people, Chinese officials struggled with crowd management and many fans missed the 1st two heats of the men's 100m featuring Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell. Bolt strolled a languid 10.22, while Asafa appeared in some discomfort at the start and cantered to a brisk 10.14, before being stretchered from the track with what was later diagnosed as an upset stomach. Frater also appeared in good touch. In the field events, Dorian Scott was unfortunately unable to reproduce his earlier season form and failed to make the finals of the shot, however Tricia Smith was the last qualifier and sneaked through to the finals of the triple jump with her first and only legal jump. Although recording two no-jumps she appears to have recovered from early season injury and she put up a good show in the finals..
