The ‘bird nest’ is open, and all eyes are on Beijing. Athletes are primed and countries are praying for medals. How do you think Jamaica will do?
From all reports, Jamaica expects its biggest medal haul ever at this year's Beijing Olympics. Forecasters from all over the globe have placed Jamaica among those nations guaranteed to get gold medals in the Track and Field sprint events. Chat-Bout has its own forecast. Here are the events we expect Jamaica to take by storm: Olympic Medals Men's 100m Sprint Jamaica is home to the world's two fastest men: Usain 'Lightning' Bolt, with his record of 9.72 seconds, and Asafa 'Afasa' Powell, former record holder with a personal best time of 9.74s. Both men will be representing the country in the men's 100m race, and are the ones to look out for and beat. We predict a gold for Jamaica in this event (though we're not sure who it will be coming from), and silver too.
Men's 200m Sprint Usain 'Lightning' Bolt has proved his mettle as the one to watch in this race. He has been a World Youth and Junior Champion in the 200m, and was a silver medallist at the World Championships in Osaka, Japan, last year. In this his 'pet' event, Chat-Bout expects Bolt to take it home for Jamaica: straight gold! Women's 200m Sprint Veronica Campbell-Brown is the defending champion in this event from the 2004 Athens Olympics race. She has clocked the fastest time for women in the event since the start of this year, and achieved her personal best time (21.94s) this year as well. Obviously, Ver is in fine form, and is expected to defend her title handsomely. Chat-Bout can see another gold medal in the pipelines. Silver at the very least. Men's 4x100 Relays Jamaica's men's relay team this year is a force to be reckoned with. With three of the four athletes slated to participate in this event running sub-10 times: Usain Bolt (9.72s), Asafa Powell (9.74s) and Nesta Carter (9.98s), Jamaica is expected to take one of the three coveted medals in this event. We say silver or gold. Women's 4x100 Relays While not very many forecasters see Jamaica getting a medal in this event, Chat-Bout thinks it is wrong to rule out the possibility of Jamaica's women's relay team bringing home the bacon. At the last (2004) Olympics, our ladies got silver in this event. Since that time, their form has improved, and they are still a mighty force to contend with (Veronica Campbell-Brown, Aileen Bailey, Sherone Simpson). We want to hear from you. What are your predictions in terms of how our athletes will perform.Touch base and tell us what you think
