The 16th Annual staging of Reggae Sumfest may headline some of hip-hop's finest performers if all goes well with negotiations currently underway with Keyshia Cole, Chris Brown and Ne-Yo.
While the list for international acts has not yet been finalised, patrons are expecting the usual serving of excellent popular R&B artistes. Chris Brown, Keyshia Cole and Ne-Yo have carved out spaces for themselves in the R&B music world, and have amassed extensive fan bases among teens and young adults internationally. In Jamaica, hip-hop/R&B is the second most popular musical genre among teens and young adults after dancehall/roots reggae.Last year, LL Cool J gave a vibrant, fiery performance. Chris Brown's single 'With You' has reached #2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 charts, and can be heard playing on almost every street corner in corporate Jamaica. Keyshia Cole's 'Should Have Cheated' is an equally popular song in the island, and is becoming a dancehall classic of sorts. With an estimated 6,000 patrons expected to grace Negril's shores this summer for the event, Reggae Sumfest will amass even more viewers with its first ever live internet streaming. While the service will not be available in Jamaica (for obvious reasons), offshore reggae fans who cannot attend the event for whatever reason, will now be able to view it live online, courtesy of Karib Link Digital. This means that these fans will get an unusually rich line-up of reggae acts such as Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Tarrus Riley, Queen Ifrica, Etana, Vybz Kartel, Elephant Man, Wayne Marshall, and many, many more from the comfort of their homes.
Reggae Sumfest has been hailed as the premier reggae show in the world, setting the bar higher each year with its increasingly stellar performances. All the top reggae acts internationally will converge in Montego Bay, Jamaica from July 13-19, giving their audiences what is expected to be non-stop reggae delight.
