Jamaican Comedians to Headline Comedy Splash, “NY Edition” PDF Print E-mail

Economic Recession aside, New Yorkers are getting ready to laugh till it hurts when the duo of Ity & Fancy Cat, along with controversial and hilarious comedian/talk show host, Ragashanti, and female comedian Elva invades New York, on Sunday March 7, 2010.

The comedy event-billed the Western Union Comedy Splash “NYC Edition” will be held at the Harry S. Truman High school in the Bronx and is being presented by Change Entertainment.

According to its president, Rob Loague, “we believe with the economy steadily recovering there is the need for an infusion of business activities to stimulate our local economy. It is up to us as entrepreneurs to instill confidence in the community by investing and leading the way. We invite you to support us in this effort.”

Ity and Fancy Cat
Ity & fancy Cat has been enjoying tremendous success of late, but the duo has been wooing Jamaican & Caribbean audiences for over a decade. From humble beginnings in one of Jamaica’s more volatile communities, Trench Town, Ity & fancy Cat made the obvious choice of a pathway to happiness through laughter, rather than embrace the culture of violence which pervaded their environment.

After dabbling with ‘deejaying’, the pair realized that their penchant for the “funny stuff” was more their calling. They first came to public notice in Courts (Jamaica) Furniture advertising campaign, and continued over the years, to hone their craft with numerous corporate and other engagements such as the Caribbean leg of ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?’

They have just concluded their second television season on TVJ in Jamaica, which enjoyed tremendous success. Now they’re ready to take their show to the big apple.

Ragashanti
Dr. Kingsley “Ragashanti” Stewart—”Mr. Mix Up an Blenda”, as he is endearingly known is the host of Jamaica’s most popular radio talk-show Ragashanti Live! He is also a renowned entertainer, a comedian and a highly sought-after master of ceremonies (MC). In his talk-show, Ragashanti unapologetically explores the Jamaican concept of mix up and blenda: the entertaining presentation of humorous events from the lives of people.

Ragashanti, the very edgy and oft-controversial, comedian/talk show host is more than a bellyful of laughter. In fact this enigmatic, character is full of much more than jokes, which makes him that more credible and appealing. Ragashanti’s story reads like a novel; kind of a good boy turned bad, before finally realizing his true potential. The very “Ph.d’d” Ragashanti had numerous brushes with the law before turning to education for a pathway to gain and personal fulfillment.

Elva
Elva Ruddock, one of Jamaica’s outstanding female comedians, will complete the pack. Known as Jamaica’s only female comedic entertainer and the, “fundaciliator”, Elva made her international debut at Howard University in 2005. She is however best known as a permanent fixture on Fame FM 95 “Full house Friday” and a regular host of “Crack up” monthly comedy series at Backyard in Kingston, Jamaica. Her unique style and straight talking ways as well as her hilarious take on her life experiences: trials & triumphs with men, family, hair & wigs, has made her a big hit.
