Usain  Bolt  and  Veronica  Campbell-Brown  have  landed  in  the  top  ten  of  Track  and  Field  News  Athlete  of  the  Decade.

Bolt

Bolt  who  shattered  the  world  records  in  the  100  and  200m at  the  Beijing  Olympics  in  2008, a year  later  produced  another  sensational  feat  when  he  lowered  these  marks  at  the  World  Championships  in  Berlin. These  stunning performances  see  him  being  ranked  at  number  four  on  the  mens’  list.

The  male  athlete  of  the  decade  accolade  was  won  by  the  Ethiopian  distance  runner   Kenenisa Bekele, who  won  ahead  of  Lithuanian discus  thrower  Virgilijus Alekna.

Campbell-Brown

Campbell-Brown  who  is  the  first  back  to  back  Olympic  champion  in  the  womens’  200m  is  placed  at  number  6, with  World  400m champion  the  Jamaican  born  American  Sanya  Richards  at  number  five

The  Russian  pole vaulter  Yelena Isinbayeva  was  named  Female  Athlete  of  the  Decade. She   won the 2004 and 2008 Olympic gold medals and  the 2005 and 2007 World Championships titles.

She is also the reigning European Champion and has notched up a phenomenal 27 world records, indoors and outdoors..
