In Jamaica, the Spa industry is ‘big tings’. The goal is standardization
Tourism Product Development Steering Committee, comprised of private sector and public sector members are working fastidiously on standardizing Jamaica’s spa industry. The spa sector is part of the rapidly growing wellness tourism industry.
The segment, day spas in particular, is one of the fastest growing segments in Jamaica and has been identified by TPDCo and Industry experts as an area to benefit from standardization and accreditation. This initiative is not geared at putting pressure on the operators in the spa segment, but to protect their interests and those of the visitor or customer who brings foreign revenue to support our tourism industry.
In addition, the initiative seeks to improve customer service, identify and initiate an industry Seal of approval and identiry and initiate a Jamaica brand. The draft standards document will be given to the Bureau of Standards for review; upon completion, it will then be sent to CROSQ, CARICOM’s the regional standards organization for review before ratification.
The draft document will also be reviewed by a variety of industry partners before being finalized. The standards steering committee has conceived a workshop to review the draft and to and seek input of industry operators.
A Spa Survey has been designed to get the responses of industry stakeholders as it relates to the various areas to be implemented.
